Prince Philip of Edinburgh dead, the official Gossip Blog announcement

Prince Philip of Edinburgh, consort of Queen Elizabeth, died today in Windsor Castle. The official status was given by the official Buckingham Palace press organs. He was 99 years old (he would have turned 100 in June). It was one of the longest-lived couples of the English monarchy with 62 years and 71 days of marriage.

In 2017, the couple celebrated 70 years of marriage. They had four children: Carlo, Anna, Andrea and Edoardo, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty the Queen announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness died peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. The royal family joins people from all over the world in mourning for his loss.

Prince of Greece and Denmark, Philip met the English sovereign in 1939 by weaving a close correspondence during the Second World War (in which he was in the service of the English naval navy). Until the official engagement in 1946, a year later, in a wedding ceremony celebrated on November 20, 1947.

Always a step behind his wife, before the wedding, Philip renounced the Greek and Danish noble titles for love.

A few weeks ago, he had been hospitalized for an infection. After undergoing a delicate heart surgery, the prince consort was discharged 15 days later, returning to the royal residence.

In addition to royal attributes, Philip was also a patron of a number of organizations, and was the head of the universities of Cambridge and Edinburgh. He joined the Queen on official trips to the Commonwealth.

The condolences of Prime Minister Boris Johnson

A few minutes ago, the condolences of Prime Minister Boris Johnson also arrived:

Prince Philip has earned the affection of generations here in the UK, the Commonwealth and around the world. My thoughts are with the queen, the royal family and the British people as a nation huddling together to mourn and remember the life of Prince Philip.
